Marilyn Minter’s work is fucking so damn sexy. She takes amazing photos, but also makes huge enamel paintings based on her photographs. Mmmmmm… Yum!

What do you think is different about being a young artist today?
The lack of working space. When I came here in the 1970s, I had my choice of spaces like my loft here in Soho—for $350 a month. That’s why, whenever I fell through the cracks for a while, I could still be an artist—because of this space. And I was never greedy. I never rented part of it out; I shared it. It was good karma. So I have good rent. That’s the tough one. But I see absolutely no difference other than that. I think that the people you went to school with can be your friends for the rest of your life, and if you’re smart, you’ll band together and go to each other’s studios and try and help each other out. It’s a very competitive world. And if I like somebody’s work—as much I hate seeing somebody really good because I have to pay attention—I make sure I tell them. And that’s the biggie: To not try to kill someone off, but to tell them how good they are. That, I think, keeps you healthy. -Marilyn Minter via Time Out
